Hello
Like books and history?
We have lots in common!
My Story
Cat Weldon is a children’s author who writes funny, fast-paced children's fiction with a love for quirky fairy tales and world mythology.
Her debut trilogy, How to Be a Hero, was published by Macmillan Children’s Books, and her new graphic novel series, Amelia Cheeseheart Investigates, will hit bookshops later this year, published by Guppy Books.
When she’s not writing, Cat loves visiting schools and libraries—both in person and online. This year alone she’s led creative writing workshops, presented assemblies, and challenged countless students to her now-infamous True or False Viking Quiz (she remains undefeated—most people fall at the “Did Vikings wash their hair in wee?” question). Her sessions are regularly praised for their energy, humour, and ability to truly engage young readers. She’s also worked with the National Literary Trust to promote Early Years reading in primary schools.
Beyond schools, Cat has brought Norse sagas to life at the East Anglian Storytelling Festival, spoken at the Stonham Barns Viking and Saxon Festival, and appeared at the 2024 Primadonna Festival. She was also the featured author for the Jorvik Viking Centre’s Bloodaxe Book Challenge.
Cat holds a Master’s degree in Scriptwriting and has a background in children’s theatre. These days, she splits her time between writing, teaching, and chasing her wayward chickens through neighbouring gardens.
She lives in East Anglia with her family and is often found lurking in museums. She does have a favourite cup—but sadly, it has never recited poetry to her.
