My Story

Cat Weldon is a children's author who writes funny middle grade fantasy stories with a particular interest in offbeat fairy tales and world mythology.

Her debut trilogy, How to be a Hero, was published by Macmillan Children's Books.

This year she has been busy with school and library visits, both online and in person. Including presenting assemblies, leading creative writing workshops with key stage 2 pupils, and challenging students to her now infamous True or False Viking Quiz (she remains undefeated - it’s the did Vikings wash their hair in wee question which catches everyone out!). Her school visits are always complimented, especially for her ability to engage with students and bring loads of energy to the classroom.

She has also been a special guest for projects on Anglo Saxon and Viking history.

As well as schools Cat has also popped up to give talks at the Stonham Barns Viking and Saxon Festival and told Norse sagas at the East Anglian Storytelling Festival. She has also been the featured author for the Jorvik Viking Centre’s Bloodaxe Book Challenge. Basically, if there’s a Viking event somewhere she will find it!

With a Master’s degree in Scriptwriting and a background in children’s theatre, Cat now splits her time between writing, teaching, and chasing her collection of delinquent chickens through the neighbours gardens.

Cat lives in East Anglia with her family and can often be found in museums. Although she has a favourite cup, it has never recited poetry to her.
